the melancholy of resistance

As is pretty evident, this blog is basically dead, I'm assuming duties at Bagatellen, which is where my energies will be devoted. But, I thought I would mention some photos that I was really impressed with. They're a real joy, in that they're portraits, not the kind of thing that's just an artefact for a closed community, they're meant to be shared. There's a minimum of mugging, and outright performance, but they're still framed in a sort of theatrical setting. It's the details that are quite special, the skateboard ramps, houses, helmets are intimately connected with the subjects, they're not incidental, but also not deliberate. The kids seem like an expression of the backgrounds they stand against, literally, they show the faces of the skateparks, and the houses; they stand in an immediate continuity with the spaces in which they dwell. The photos are simple, honest and clear, almost devoid of affectation, a pleasure to spend a little time with.
